Moving Away From Social Media

Over the last several months, I’ve really tried to figure out what social media brings me value-wise. It’s clear that it helps with connection, and it’s nice to stay up-to-date on events or other things that might interest me.

But that’s where the fun stops. It’s also a source of anxiety, jealousy, and unnecessary “noise” in my life. It leads to way more screen time than I’m willing to admit, too. So that’s why I’m leaning toward micro blogging (this site). Here are some other reasons:

  • First, the site is clean and fast. No ads, no fluff. Just my content, under my name.
  • Second is it’s mine to control. The content flows as I intend it to flow, and I can manipulate that as necessary.
  • Lastly, it’s a way to avoid the nasty bits of many social networks (looking at you, Facebook). No promoted posts or manipulated ads here.

We’ll see how it goes, but so far, so good. I’m a fan. Stay tuned for more content (aviation and life). I’ll try to share more here about my job, my flying adventures, and a little bit of everything.
